Scrapbooking as much as possible, but sometimes getting distracted by birthdays and life!

Well, maybe not in my memory, but trying to document Erin’s experiences so that if she should happen to forget she’ll have this page to help her remember!

In case you weren’t aware, a huge goal for me is to finish her school album for Winfield schools (K-8), so when I found challenges for travel themes and a wonderful PageMaps sketch that was part of a challenge my brain came up with Erin’s 8th grade trip to Springfield! I was so pleased that she took our little point and shoot camera and took lots of great pictures (all the pictures on the LO are hers except for the one of her, which my friend Kara took and texted to me [and later resent it via e-mail when I couldn’t find it because it was the only close-up of her that I knew of – thanks again, Kara!])

You may have noticed that I tend to focus on the details. Well, there are themes I used that may not be completely obvious upon just checking out the page, but I’ll talk about those details, don’t fret ;-)!

Here’s the sketch which was the August Guest Designer Challenge from Jessica Navarro over at sketches4all (bless you Jessica for choosing a 2-pager with lots of photos and especially a PageMaps sketch – I love PageMaps!)

You'd think that this LO would just put itself together, but I have to up the difficulty by adding in details!

Awesome bowling cuts (those pins are 3 layers each and are 3 separate pins - the bowling ball was 4 layers!)

Without further ado, the details! I chose my patterned paper first and it inspired me to consider the penny, where President Lincoln (yes, of the Land of Lincoln, otherwise known as our home state of Illinois) has resided. Pennies are made of copper and when copper oxidizes it becomes this beautiful turquoise color. When I saw the turquoise in the camera paper I decided it needed to be a strong element in my layout as well as the copper pen I used for the writing. That’s it! In other fun was a challenge to use arrows. I decided that it would be fun to use the arrows to label the photos and add to the energy of the page. There was also a challenge to use wood  (I loved using wood veneer alphas and the @ on Lincoln’s head), stripes (I used a blue ribbon with white stripes on the right side of the LO) and mixed alphas (I used 3 different alphas for the title).

The cardstock was from Bazzill and my stash. The patterned paper was from Bo Bunny and Little Yellow Bicycle can lay claim to everything from patterned paper to flags to chipboard shapes to vellum strips. The alphas are from Close to My Heart and Prima, the wood veneer is from Studio Calico, pen was from Faber-Castell and the ribbons are from The Paper Studio and Stampin’ Up! Adhesive was from American Crafts, Scotch and Xyron. Cutting files were from Silhouette store.

I will be entering this layout into the following challenges (in alphabetical order):
