Scrapbooking as much as possible, but sometimes getting distracted by birthdays and life!

Don’t look up!

I was always amused by the tradition of throwing the graduation caps into the air. Something about all the graduates ending up with eye injuries always made me cringe somewhat or just smile at the thought depending on my mood.

I do know that when I saw this card by Yainea :

Yainea created this card for Lawn Fawn! It's been floating around in my head like so many mortarboards ever since!

I knew it was one I wanted to “copy”! Then, Papertrey Ink put out a challenge to do a random stamped background and I really needed to get my act together and create a graduation card.  I had a great set of Papertrey Ink stamps that I could use and along with my Silhouette Cameo, and a great sketch from the Online Card Class : Summer Card Camp 2. I came up with this:

The school colors were yellow and black

I forgot to use my anti-static bag on the embossed banners, but I went with it because I thought it added a confetti-like feel and helped the banners to stand out more from the stamped hats. Here’s the inside:

(I don't know why the color turned out so different - it's the same as the front...)

(I don’t know why the color turned out so different – it’s the same as the front…)

I got the inspiration for the sentiment from a shirt I had from a continuing ed class I had taken. I thought it was especially appropriate because this particular graduate is going to be teaching! I used the Silhouette sketch pens to draw the sentiment and the borders around it. I’ll be writing a personal message inside.

I will be entering my card into the Papertrey Ink Make It Monday Challenge using a randomly stamped background: http://nicholeheady.typepad.com/capture_the_moment/

and the Scrappin-n-Chattin August Card Challenge Handmade Background : http://groups.yahoo.com/group/scrappin-n-chattin/message/215707

And here is a link to Yainea’s blog, she is amazing. I am always blown away by her fun, clever cards! http://www.mypaperjourney.blogspot.com/2013/06/lawnscaping-challenge-59-coloring.html

I used: cardstock from CTMH, Discount Cardstock and stash, stamps from Papertrey Ink (Tag-its #4), cutting files from Silhouette store (Class of 2013, pea pod parts for drawn frame) and Matilde is the font I used for the quote, Versafine and Versamark ink and Stampendous embossing powder, American Crafts and Imaginisce adhesives.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek! I really love how those hats look all flying around and I’m so glad that Papertrey Ink encouraged me to use that wonderful detailed hat stamp by having the random stamping challenge!

Let me know if you have any questions or have a favorite part of my card you’d like to tell me about in the comment section ;-)!

    • Danni,
Thanks so much! It’s funny that you and I look for different kinds of stamps! I like the solid ones and you like the ones you can prettify with your fabulous coloring!
Thanks so much for all your support and encouragement!
I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating Matthew!

  2. What a great idea. I don’t use my stamps near enough except for simple sentiments.

    • Barbara,
Well, when I think of making my own background, stamping is definitely a fun way to do it (and goodness knows I have enough stamps!) PLUS I had that card that Yainea did running through my head, so that’s what I needed to do!
Thanks so much for all your support! I hope you have a day without pain very soon!!!

P.S. I didn’t say anything on SnC, but my son had oral surgery on Wednesday, so my week was filled with before and after surgery stuff along with my daughter starting high school band, so I neglected my blog comments for a while. They really mean a lot to me, though, so know that I was reading them and encouraged, but just didn’t feel like I had the time to respond at that point.

  3. Great card!! Thank you so much for sharing my card as an inspiration source, it made my day!! 🙂

    • Yainea,
Thanks so much for coming by my blog and leaving such a sweet comment! I love your coloring and I think your designs are always so very fun and clever! I was glad I got to CASE your card finally! It was definitely the best background and such a fun way to celebrate graduation!
I hope you have a fantastic day and I can’t wait to see your next inspiring creation!

P.S. Sorry it took me so long to respond. It was a crazy busy week and I am just now playing catch-up! I was so thrilled to see your comment, I just needed some time to get caught up on other stuff before I could respond.
