Scrapbooking as much as possible, but sometimes getting distracted by birthdays and life!

Inspired!

Hey, there, blogging world! So, no I haven’t been posting on my blog, but I have been creating and today I’m finally sharing something with you!

I have loved all the great tutorials (camp craft videos) that My Favorite Things has put out and was so inspired by a number of things that they have created and techniques they have shared during their two Camp Create sessions this summer!

I really adored pretty much everything about the

in June from MFT! July and August have the birthdays for both of my kids and my hubby and the bright fun colors in this kit along with the fun dies and the hearts in the flames meant that I really wanted to have the kit for creating for them!

Next, Barbara Anders shared this card:

with a fabulous watercolor look and one of the best sentiments in the stamp set, especially for those birthdays with more than a few candles and I was on my way to creating something from the heart for my hubby.

And lastly,

inspired me to think outside of the box for how to use the dies from the kit!

So, onto my project!

I cut the candle and flame dies from the kit out of recycled printer paper and ran them through my Xyron X with the temporary adhesive cartridge. I have to admit I did a number of these cuts because I did some experimenting with colors and layout before my final card. It was easy to cut a lot of them since they are in groups of five! After I randomly placed the candle and flame masks on my watercolor paper I used my ink blending tools with the Cornflower, Green Room and Lemon Drop inks from the kit, but found that I liked just using Lemon Drop and Cherry Crisp instead (I had a theme – which had to do with the sentiment on the inside!)

Here’s a photo of the masked candles with the ink blending.

After I removed the masks I stamped the hearts on the flames in Cherry Crisp and flicked on some water then some Cherry Crisp ink refill mixed with Sheer Shimmer Mix-ables Mist:

Feeling like I wanted a little more shine on the background I also added bigger splashes of the Mist:

I loved the look of the sentiment on vellum so that the background could still be seen on Barbara’s card. I created a card base out of Cherry Crisp cardstock, created a mat out of the Lemon Drop striped paper from the kit, wrapped the vellum sentiment strip around the background and adhered it all together. Lastly, some red felt hearts from Spiegelmom Scraps shop finished off the front. And the inside was simply the sentiment that was my inspiration for the colors and a little more decorative stamping from the kit stamp set in Versamark ink!

So, I’ve earned my badge for this project at least! I’m inspired by all the great ideas shared in camp and will definitely be using them as I create! Be sure to check it out if you like to get creative with paper!

Thank you so much for visiting today! I might post more of my projects here again, soon, since this was really pretty fast to do, even with all the links!

Happy crafting!

  1. Such a cool card. Love how you created it!

  2. I hope you’ll see this, Ruth. I just want you to know what your kind comment on the SCT blog means to me. Thank you for taking the time to wish me well in such a friendly and sincere fashion. This is a good move for me, but having the support of our SCT readers sure does help confirm what was a difficult decision. ❤ Thank you!
