Scrapbooking as much as possible, but sometimes getting distracted by birthdays and life!

Beauty and the Beach

Well, hello! I hope this day finds you well and enjoying your summer! I’ve got a layout from our Spring Break getaway to Georgia to visit with family and enjoy some warmth and sunshine. We were very blessed and really had a wonderful time.

We were visiting with my brother-in-law, Ken, who lives in Savannah and he took us to Tybee Island our first full day there. The sand,  sunshine and laid back atmosphere were just what we needed after the long hard winter we had just survived!

As is usually the case, it was fun to take a look at challenges when I was getting ready to scrap this page. To begin with is the sketch, which comes from Paper Secrets July1st Sketch challenge and was created by Kelly Holifield:

PS_7-1_sketch

I love multi-photo sketches and especially liked the different sizes of photos and the angled lines of stars in this sketch. Why don’t I just show you what I did with it:

I just love having the two smaller pictures that my daughter took on the layout! They are awesome and I’m so thankful she shared them with me!

Since I adapted the sketch to use one long photo, instead of two on the right and one die cut element instead of the second photo on the left I’ll able be entering this into the Yahoo! group Scrappin-n-Chattin July challenge for a 3 photo layout.

As it so happens, Paper Secrets was teaming up with Scrap & Play for this challenge so I’ll be entering their challenge also:
Scrap&Play_ch5

I had fun with completing the SPLASH part of these challenges. This is my SPLASH:

S- Sun (rays in the background at the top of the page, camera flair in the selfie and also in the “O” in the “On Beach Time” sign)

P – Parenthesis (around the word “getaway”)

L – Landscape photo (two ways – one with that orientation and the other a literal picture of the landscape)

A – Arrows

S – Sand (I used Ultra Fine Flower Soft sand on the word “beach” in my title)

H – Hearts (wood veneer hearts near my journaling, the selfie and the title)

I also used some of those items to qualify for the Scrap our Stash Challenge #16 ~ Let’s Go Shopping!

SOS-16_Shopping

From the shopping list I used:

  1. Striped Paper (sun rays in the upper part of the layout, as well as the strip that ran through the middle that you can see behind the “getaway” die cut)
  2. Arrows (one die cut and two paper clips at the tops of the photos)
  3. Wood veneer (the hearts)
  4. Journaling card (upper right corner)
  5. Die cut (the background sun rays and waves are from 4 season’s layout: summer by Lori Whitlock, the “beach” arrow and “on beach time” sign are  print and cut files from Simple Stories, “getaway” is from Kerri Bradford Studio’s This + That Summertime)
  6. Sequins (yellow and blue located in spots around the page – can you see the ones I tucked under the curls of the waves? I thought it would be a nice way to add some shine and dimension there)

Do you have a favorite way of sharing your beach memories? I’d love to hear about that in the comments below (or tell me if something I shared inspired you for your next layout.)

Thanks so much for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful day (maybe with lots of sunshine or sand in your toes!)

My main project is a small Simple Stories page for my December Daily album. Please see this post for more info on my concept for this album. Here’s my page about my love of snowflakes:

Ruth - 9

I created the top frame and snowflake with my Silhouette Cameo machine and the 12 pc December Daily set from Lori Whitlock (cutting off the outer two rings of the circle.) I love how I’m able to put whatever number(s) I need into the corner to indicate what day it is. It’s also wonderful that it works as a frame for a 4×6 landscape style pocket so what I wanted to share can be tucked inside.

I used Simple Stories December Documented paper for the die cuts and their Sn@p Christmas for the 4×6 cards on the top and bottom. I used sequins from my stash, the wood veneer snowflake is from Paper Chase and a Sakura white Jelly Roll pen for the faux stitching.

I belong to a group of crafty ladies on Yahoo! called Scrappin-n-Chattin and I thought I would share with you some of my Christmas in July challenge cards. These were made from a kit from Pinecone Press using Simple Stories’ 25 Days of Christmas collection:

Ruth - 18 Train

Ruth - 14 Peace

Ruth - 8 Poinsettia

Ruth - 7 Music

And these two are from an old card kit from Basic Grey:

Ruth - 13 village

Ruth - 11 Frosty

You’ll find other Christmas cards in my past two posts, if you’re looking for more inspiration.

Thanks again for stopping by! It’s fun to create Christmas or winter themed projects when it’s warm outside! Even though we had a very harsh winter, I still think snowflakes are beautiful!

To continue on with the hop, you’ll head to Lee-Anne’s blog. Thanks so much for visiting today! Have a wonderful Christmas in July!

Lori Whitlock, MIA?

Well, sometimes I just enjoy the process of creating my projects and I don’t spend the time sharing them on my blog and sometimes there are other reasons (like I haven’t given the card yet and I don’t want it to be a spoiler!) I am applying for Lori Whitlocks’ Creative Team and noticed that there were many projects that I’ve done with Lori’s files that I haven’t published here, so I’m gonna share them now. I’ll try to at least give you the links to the files from the Silhouette store, we’ll see how far I get, LOL!

this also uses the digital papers from Lori’s Christmas Day collection that I printed out – I would have loved to have used print and cut, but my Silhouette was not playing nice with me the other day, so I did it a fairly low-tech way instead.

I had a ton of fun creating this card for my nephew!

My sister’s birthday card – she is a Stamin’ Up! demonstrator and loves blue so I used SU! blue papers. It does say “looks good on you” on the very front yellow panel, but it didn’t turn out in the photo. I have to admit, the Stickles went on a little too thick, LOL! Don’t you love the sweet banner and the little bows, though? Just wonderful!

This and the next card were for a card set that I gave as a gift to someone special to me! I felt they would be elegant cards for an elegant person!

That about wraps it up for now. I know I have more, but I thought it’d be fun to share these today!

I hope you have a fabulous day!

Thanks for spending part of it here with me!

Christmas in July!

Well, hello! I’ve been working on a card challenge with my Scrappin-n-Chattin Yahoo! group to create Christmas cards with a different prompt every day of July and thought I’d share one of my cards with you today!

Ruth - 3 RedGreenWhite

This is for the 3rd day’s prompt to create a card with just red, green and white. I used the a2 christmas tree pop dot card by Lori Whitlock . I have to admit I have a serious shaker card addiction! They are so much fun to make. Those are the delicious Doodlebug Design sequins inside (I love all the different colors and finishes their small jars of sequins have!) Two addictions combined, maybe three if you count my Silhouette machine, or four if you consider my love of traditional Christmas colors…

So, I made this with the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge to make a shaker card in mind, but I finished too late because I was busy celebrating my daughter’s 15th birthday with her Tuesday (she chose to scrap with me – the BEST reason to miss the shaker card deadline ever!) But after checking out the next challenge found that this would work for the LET’S BE CLEAR  challenge there! Yay!

Not much else to say here. Other than I hope you’re having a fantastic summer and that you have a wonderful day!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment to put a smile on my face!
